the coming week in minneapolis movie screenings: mar 7

If last week was a whirlwind of film showings, then this week is, well, not a whirlwind.

Before I get to this week's screenings, I'd like to note that the Heritage Preservation Commission recently voted to demolish the Oak Street Cinema, according to TC Daily Planet.  Is this a sad moment for the local film community?  Absolutely.  But perspective is important in these instances, and the article contains a number of quotes that highlight the vibrancy of the movie culture we're currently experiencing here.  I'm thankful that, in my few short years here in Minneapolis, I got the chance to see a handful of films at the 95 year-old institution before it goes away for good.

Tomorrow night is your final chance to see psycho-sexual thriller Amer at the Trylon.  Showings are at 7 and 8:50.  You're more than welcome to check out last week's post on the screening.  For those of you feeling adventurous, I encourage you to check Kathie Smith's recent blurb on the showing.

This Friday, the Walker continues their Schnabel series with the film Before Night Falls.  At the Walker's blog you can check out a brief post on the city of Merida, where part of the film was shot.  The film screens at 7:30.
