friday walker screening: Basquiat

The Walker's latest retrospective, "Julian Schnabel: Artist Director,"begins tomorrow night with the screening of his 1996 piece, Basquiat:
Jean Michel Basquiat saw a meteoric rise to fame in the 1980s Manhattan art scene, followed by a tragic overdose at the age of 27. Schnabel’s insider’s view illuminates the excesses and capricious nature of the art world, as seen through Jeffrey Wright's wide-eyed and whimsical portrayal of Basquiat. Also with Willem Dafoe, Dennis Hopper, Parker Posey, Gary Oldman, Benicio del Toro, and David Bowie as the incomparable Andy Warhol. Schnabel’s debut garnered him the National Board of Review’s special recognition for excellence in filmmaking. 1996, 35mm, 108 minutes.
It's a 7:30 showing for $8 (or $6 for Walker members).  Or, if you're big fan of Schnabel and want to get the most out of your dollar, you can buy three tix for upcoming films and get a fourth free.  Here are the remaining films in the retrospective:
