weekend screenings: Feb 4

We got some real gems opening this weekend for you, including a 4 year-old Cannes standout.  Secret Sunshine comes to St Anthony via the Film Society.  You can find reviews for this 2007 Chang-Dong Lee (Poetry) feature in the Strib (Covert gives it 3.5 stars), PiPress (Hewitt gives it 3.5 stars), and City Pages (no star ratings, but they liked it).

Also opening is the new Sylvain Chomet (Triplets of Belleville) film, The Illusionist, nominated for Animated Feature Film at the Oscars (PiPress review; Strib review).  Not only is the film's star an animated (used here literally) Jacques Tati, but the movie comes from a never-before produced screenplay of his.

Finally, the Uptown is opening the new Inarritu (Babel, Amores Perros) picture Biutiful, which is up for Foreign Language Film at the Oscars (Strib review; PiPress review).
